Abstract
Digital technology has profoundly transformed many aspects of life and medicine is no exception. Technologies such as Internet, virtual care, remote monitoring, artificial intelligence, smart wearables, among many others, have demonstrated their potential to improve health outcomes by improving medical diagnosis, treatment decisions, clinical trials, and remote monitoring. Particularly in surgery, technologies used in clinical practice, for diagnosis, preoperative preparation and intraoperative care, and those that facilitate scientific activity stand out. This review addresses aspects such as digital applications for use in surgery, digital histories, applications of artificial intelligence in surgery, robotic surgery, and the importance of telemedicine.
