Abstract

The dominant principle of the method of Orr is to favor with rigorous immobilization the tissue defense against the infection. During the Spanish Civil War it was used in open fractures, there was performed surgical cleaning, applied petroleum jelly on the wound and covered with plaster boot by 2 or 3 weeks, unless the patient presented/displayed fever. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of the cures of Orr still on diabetic at the Hospital Universitario de Coro Dr. Alfredo Van Grieken, during the period between October 2008 - March 2009.
Patients and method: This is a descriptive, prospective study, including patients with diabetic foot III and IV degree, according to Wagner’s modified classification. There was recorded the number of necessaries cures for the healing of the ulcer, intervals between change of the cure, period of healing and complications presented/displayed with this method of cure. Results: To a total of seven patients during the period of October 2008 - March 2009, we did between 4 and 7 cures to obtain the healing, which was obtained before 6 months in 100%
of the patients. Change of cures were in variable time interval. One patient developed atopic dermatitis due the used material. Conclusion: The technique of Orr is a good option in the handling of ulcer by diabetic foot, with satisfactory results, obtaining a functional foot.
