Abstract

Salivary gland tumors comprise a heterogeneous group of lesions with distinctive clinical-pathologic and biological characteristics.
Objective: Presenting the experience obtained in the Nueva Esparta State in the anatomo-pathological diagnosis of tumors of the salivary glands. Patients and methods: We reviewed a total of 27 cases in a period of 5 years (2005-2010), all cases originals of Nueva Esparta State.
Results: Parotid gland was the most frequently affected, both with benign neoplasm as malignant. The Pleomorphic adenoma was the most frequent benign tumor, as well as in women. Malignant neoplasms accounted for 30% of the evaluated material, most were tumors of aggressive behavior. Conclusion: We consider it important to make an early diagnosis and treatment in these patients, to rule out malignant
pathology for his aggressive behavior.
