Abstract

ERAS / ACERTO protocol is a multimodal program designed to minimize organ dysfunction in the postoperative period and return the patient to normal as quickly as possible. Objective: To determine whether the application of ERAS / ACERTO protocol produces better recovery in patients treated with this multimodality therapy compared with traditional management. Methods: A research prospective slitting comparison was made, patients were randomly assigned to a study group (n = 40) who applied them to the protocol and a control group (n = 40) treated in the traditional way. Results: The hospital stay for the study group was in the range of 1-3 days, while the control group the average was 5 days. In terms of post-operative complications represented 92.5% of 37 patients in the study had no complications, 35% of patients in the control group has complications, rate of surgical site infection (17.5%), enterocutaneous fistula (7.5%) and vomiting (10%). Conclusion: The application of ERAS / ACERTO protocol is possible within the realities of our hospitals and is an excellent tool to achieve an early recovery in the postoperative.
