Abstract
ABSTRACT:
Objective: To describe and discuss an unusual case of gallbladder volvulus in a patient with acute abdomen requiring emergency cholecystectomy. Materials and Methods: A case of an 88-year-old female patient who consulted for sudden abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting was analyzed. The diagnosis was made by imaging, which reported cystic structure with stone inside and inflammatory changes compatible with gallbladder volvulus. Results: Laparoscopy was performed with subsequent conversion, showing a large gallbladder, rotated on its axis, greater than 180°, which conditions necrosis of its walls. Discussion: Gallbladder volvulus is an uncommon pathology that predominates in elderly female patients, as it was in our case. Its clinical manifestations are similar to other pathologies of acute abdomen, so it is essential to make a timely diagnosis and treatment. Conclusion: The main manifestation of gallbladder volvulus is abdominal pain and nonspecific symptoms, so it is difficult to identify it in the preoperative period. Cholecystectomy is the treatment of choice with an excellent prognosis.
