Abstract
Objectives: To review the experience of the unidad de cirugìa hepática, biliar, pancreática y trasplante de hígado of the Hospital Coromoto y Hospital Universitario de Maracaibo, in diagnostic and treatment of congenital dilatation of the bile duct. Patients and methods: Patients with diagnostic of congenital biliary dilatation are reviewed in a period between june 1989 and November 2004. Eight consecutive patients describe themselves. Six female and two masculine. Signs and symptoms, diagnostics methods, surgical procedure, histopathological results, perioperative,s and long-term outcome complications were evaluated. Results: Eight patients describe themselves. 75% are female and the age average of 31.7 years old. 62% consults for abdominal pain. The diagnostic was made for imagenological methods and 100% underwent cystectomy and bilioenteric anastomosis. 25% of the patients present mayor complications. At the moment all are alive and asintomatics. The statistics analyze was elaborated in Excel 2003. Conclusions: The diagnostics become by imaging diagnostics methods, we recommended magnetis resonance imaging with cholangiopancreatography. The better treatment is cistectomy with bilioenteric anastomosis. Surgycal procedure must be made by expert surgeons in pancreaticobiliar surgery.
